Tips on recording real time cook-along audio

Cook-along recordings are real time audio recordings that last as long as it takes takes to cook the recipe - be it a five minute Cheese on Toast or a four hour Hotpot.

The idea is that you can listen to the recording in the kitchen, literally cooking alongside Grandma and using her timings to time your own cooking.

There are many ways to make audio recordings - you can even do it over the phone. All that matters is that you get it to us as an .mp3 file. Here are some tips...

Digital Recording

Probably the easiest way to make and audio recording is to visit gran and use a recording device that can save the file as and .mp3 withou any conversion. Eg a laptop, digital audio recorder or even a mobile phone.

Plan ahead - remember to check you have enough space to record - particularly if the recipe will take a couple of hours to cook.

Converting from Dictaphone or Minidisc

If you record the audio on a more convential format you will need to use a computer to convert the audio to .mp3 before submitting it.

Alternatively you could use a recording from a free voice-over-IP application like Gizmo or Skype.
